From Curriculum to Communication, a School Immerses Itself in Tech

1. How did the teacher use technology in this lesson/approach? Details- time activities, products, etc.

The teachers in this article use technology to communicate with teachers and students through their own personal email addresses, that every student is provided with. An example shows the students telling the teacher certain answers to questions while the teacher types them into the computer, and it reads the answers back to them aloud. Mrs. Eveleigh makes a daily newsletter and puts it up on the class's webpage to help inform the parents what the students did that day. Every one of the teachers has their own class webpage that has daily agendas, upcoming events, and assignments posted on them daily.

2. How did the students use technology?

The students each have their own individual email addresses as well as usernames and passwords to the computer system, instead of a traditional pencil and paper. On here, they are able to communicate with their peers, as well as other students. They also do many projects on a program called WEBQUEST, this allows them to do their own research at their own pace and complete the project completely on the computer. Their grade is then given to them through their email accounts.

3. How were students assessed? How were students' content knowledge, skills, and or technology skills evaluated?

The students are assessed completely by the finished products they put online and email to their teachers. Also, if the project includes outside work, field work, or anything else of the sort, they log everything completely on the computer. The teacher can then pull up any information they need on any of the computers at the school to evaluate the child's work correctly and give them the grade that they deserve.

4. How were the students provided feedback, remediation, scaffolding?

Each student is given their own personal laptop with their own username, password, and email address. They are then able to save all of their work on there and the teacher can go on and comment on how they are doing, provide feedback, and grade the assignment when it is due. The teacher is also in the classroom and able to help the student with any problem they may have with the technology. The students are given all of the necessary tools and instructions to use the technology right.
